Hope United Methodist Church, 2203 S. 3rd Avenue, sponsored an Intergenerational Mission Trip to Project Crossroads, in Marion, Virginia from June 17-25. The idea to work at Project Crossroads developed after Mark Stransky visited Hope in the Spring of 2016. He is a United States Methodist Missionary that Hope UMC supports. Project Crossroads is a ministry that provides assistance in home repairs for those without resources in the Marion area. Seventeen members made the trip to Virginia and worked with two homeowners. The work will included: roof repairs, building a handicap accessible ramp, painting interior walls, installing a sink and toilet to make a bathroom more accessible and working at a food bank & second hand clothing store. The team was able to connect and build relationships with the homeowners. In addition, the group was able to take in some of the cultural activities in the area including listening to Blue Grass music, hiking on the Appalachia trail, and biking down a mountain trail. The team members shared that they learned a lot about themselves and although they went with the intention of impacting another person’s life, they felt that they received just as many blessings in return.
