2021 Hope Members C.A.R.E (Care About Reaching Everyone)
As we begin a new year and approach the 50th Anniversary of Hope United Methodist Church, we continue to look for ways to be the church in 2021. Hope UMC has a legacy of being a mission minded church so we have decided to continue Hope C.A.R.E.s by offering drop off events, campaigns and other ways to serve each month during 2021.
The Discipleship Pathways team (Connect, Grow, Serve) has been contemplating ways to celebrate our 50th Anniversary and came up with the idea of finding “50 ways to serve” during our anniversary year. This year we invite our Hope family, to prayerfully consider how you might share Jesus’ love by serving others. Finding “50 Ways to Serve” seems like a daunting task but with God’s help and by working together we can accomplish much.
Here are some options to consider:
Hope CAREs 2021 Drive Thru Events:
We find out what items are needed and then ask members and friends to consider donating. Member/Friends deliver items or money under the awning once per month. We greet, and unload the items for them. If you are interested in a project when we are closer to the month, we should have more details.
March 27-Iowa UMC Camps (mainly Wesley Woods (sports- balls & games, swim- life jackets, toys, pool noodles, horses-helmets, treats, toys, safety-masks, wipes, bandaids, money for camp rebuilding projects
April 10, Books for PK- 4th graders for Hoglan elementary (we will give to each student or give books to their library). We will decide once we talk to the Principal.
May 22-Marshalltown Food Box – Most Needed Items include all the items that our partners and clients need to keep their shelves and stomachs full. We strive to supply the most nutritious items possible, so please consider donating items low in sodium.
- Canned meat
- Canned fish (e.g. tuna or salmon)
- Canned vegetables
- Canned fruit
- Canned soup
- Dry pasta
- Breakfast items (including cereal)
- 100% fruit juice
- Paper and personal products (e.g., toothpaste, soap and toilet paper)
June-The Nest (diapers, wipes, pack-n-plays, walkers, toys, books, etc.) We will talk to the director
July– Tiger Vault (some students return in early August so we will do this in July)
August-House of Compassion (cleaning and health/safety supplies)
September- Hope’s Library (donate $ for Diane Hart to purchase books or donate books about faith, character, etc-PK thru MS/HS youth)
October-Animal Rescue League of Marshall County (treats, toys, blanket, beds, leashes) We will talk with the Director about a list.
November-YSS Youth and Shelter Services (we will get a list from the director)
December-This will be a repeat of last year’s December Hope CAREs event when Hope CAREs was born. It was a new way to do Christmas including our traditional giving opportunities.This program offered members the opportunity to make monetary donations during the month of December with the money designated to be divided equally between Child Abuse and Prevention CAPS), CIRSI’s adopt a family program, the Salvation Army and the Emergency Food Box. The HLT also organized two Mission Drop Off events to collect donations for the House of Compassion’s Supply Closet/Emergency Food Box and to collect Hats and Mittens for our friends at Hoglan Elementary, CAPS and MICA Head Start programs.
